There is a great deal of information on the World Wide Web about backpacking, ultraligh backpacking, and the outdoors we all enjoy. I have placed some of my favorite web sites on this page. The list is far from complete. I have included websites that provide information about places, ideas on bckpacking techniques, photography, associations that I feel do goo work, and more. I'll add to the list over time. Maybe you will find some of the sites of interest and use too.
Other Lightweight and Ultralight Backpacking Sites

This online journal is full of well written articles that cover a wide range of topics related to lightweight travel in the backcountry. Admittedly I am a bit biased since I am an associate editor however I sincerely believe the information you can gleam from this resource is of the highest quality. People of all experience levels will find something in this online journal.
I have found these sites of use. Most are run by other backpackers some of whom I have hiked with. The list is not in any special order.
| John O's Ultralight Backpacking Page | Adventure Alan's Ultralight Backpacking Page |
| Ryan Jordan's Yellowstone Backpacking Journal | Michael's Ultralight Backpacking Page |
| Joe's Ultralight Backpacking Page |
The Yahoo email group GreatLakesHikes Though region-specific to the Great Lakes this is an email list I have learned much from over the years. |
Finally their are now some podcasts about backpacking and back country travel that I have found enjoyable. These can all be found in the iTunes podcast directory and they all have their own websites.
| backpackinglight.co.uk | This is a podcast out of the UK that comes out every few weeks. Bob focuses on backpacking in the UK and in this very well produced podcast you get a different, well from the US-perspective, view of backpacking. I've fouond this podcast of more interest for the places that are described and the interviews that are done then for information about gear though that is covered too. |
| TrailCast | Though their has not been one recently this series of hour-long (or so) interviews with people who are very involved in backpacking has been a lot of fun to listen too. Some of the older ones are somewhat low-fi but still understandable. |
| The Wildebeat | This weekly-ish podcast picks a topic of interest and spends a few minutes exploring it. While often time I have found the information is not new to me bcause I'm not a novice anymore other times Steve presents a wealth of interesting material. |
